FINE ARTS FESTIVAL OF ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
2008 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

All Other Categories: Tuesday, April 22 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Awards Ceremony Sunday, April 27 2:00 p.m.
& Purchase Day: Rockingham Community College
Auditorium in the Advanced Technologies Building
Following the close of the Awards Ceremony, please join us in the Whitcomb Student Center, downstairs in the Activity Room for viewing and purchase of the artwork. Refreshments will be served.
Exhibit: Sunday, April 27 – Sunday, May 4
Open Meeting: Sunday, May 4 4:30 p.m.

By entering the Festival all artists become active members of The Fine Arts Festival Association of Rockingham County for a period of one year. This meeting is open to anyone who has exhibited in the Fine Arts Festival. The purpose of the meeting is to give exhibitors an opportunity to offer suggestions to the Fine Arts Festival Board that may improve the Festival. The election of officers will also be covered. All artists are urged to attend.
Art Pick-up: Sunday, May 4 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Art may not be picked up early. If you cannot pick up your art at this time, please make arrangements for someone else to collect your piece(s). Please let the person picking up your artwork know that they must sign out your piece(s) and cannot remove your work until 5:30 p.m.


ENTRY INFORMATION

All categories except Literature & Music:
Tuesday, April 22 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Entry Location: RCC, Whitcomb Student Center, downstairs Activity Room
Eligibility: Open to all residents or students of Rockingham County 16 years of age and older. All entries, regardless of category, must have been completed within the last 2 years and not previously entered in the Rockingham County Fine Arts Festival.
Entry Fee: $5.00 per entry with a maximum of five (5) entries per category.
Each category must have five (5) entries from a minimum of three (3) different artists in order for the category to be judged.
Commission: A 25% commission will be taken on all works sold during the Festival exhibit.
Judges: Judges of the Festival are professionals in related fields and non-residents of Rockingham County.
Awards: Monetary and any other awards will be presented to winning entrants on Awards & Purchase Day, Sunday, April 27.
Best in Show: $500
First Place in each category: $100
Second Place in each category: $50
Third Place in each category: $25
Honorable Mentions receive ribbons
Special Awards presented by individuals, organizations, and/or businesses are monetary awards; amounts vary.
All artists entering the Festival become active members of The Fine Arts Festival Association of Rockingham County for a period of one year and are encouraged to attend meetings.
Open Meeting - May 4th 4:30pm Rockingham Community College -Whitcomb StudentCenter, downstairs in the cafeteria.
The Festival Board of Directors reserves the right to make all final decisions concerning the Festival Exhibit and entries.


CATEGORY REQUIREMENTS
Please refer to RULES OF THE FESTIVAL for additional requirements.
Computer Generated Art
For computer generated art images or composites designed using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or comparable software and may contain photographic elements taken by the submitting artist. Works must not exceed 4' x 6', including frame.
Fiber
Includes quilting, weaving, and tatting with original design by the artist. No patterns.
Glass
Includes stained, slumped, blown, lampworking, or fused glass. All work must be original. Patterns or molds, if used, must be created by the artist.
Jewelry
Everything except the connectors and findings must be handmade and of the artist's
original design.
Literature
With the exception of hand-printed, illustrated booklets, entries must be typed on 8 ½" x 11" paper and submitted in a clear protective binder.

Music
Written sheet music and/or music performed on CD will be accepted
Photography
Any digital enhancements must be listed and presented when submitting photo.

Pottery
All work must be hand formed or wheel thrown. No modeling in soft or unfired clay.
If molds are used, finished product and mold must be artist's original design.

Sculpture
Work must be artist's original design. Any work requiring hanging must have sufficient
wiring to hold its weight. Any bases required for pieces must be supplied by entrant.
Unusual proportions must be approved by the FAFA Board of Directors in advance.
Woodworking: Original design only. No patterns or kits unless created by artist. No reproductions.

I am entering my work at my own risk and will not hold the Fine Arts Festival Association, The Board of Directors, Coordinator or Rockingham Community College responsible for any loss or damage to my property.
